About
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Marcel grew up in Perth (Western Australia) where he studied industrial design. In 2004 he returned to Melbourne to set up the multidisciplinary ‘zuii’ design studio. Zuii quickly gained recognition, winning various local and international commissions across lighting, object, and furniture. Following the success of the studio, he received numerous awards including Wallpaper magazines ‘Best Young Designer’.
In search of new horizons, Marcel received a residency grant from the Australian Council for the Arts, moving shortly to Milan to immerse himself into international design culture. In 2007 he moved to London where he worked with both Artek design studio, and until 2010 was Senior Designer at Tom Dixon.

‘Marcel sigel studio’ was established in early 2011 from a desire for personal expression in his work and is founded on the notion that design should be impassioned, provoking the emotions, feelings and behaviour of those who come into contact with it. ‘I am establishing my own unique style of design from an interest in the surreal, beauty in form and simple functionality. I create pieces that are slightly obscure and enhance an environment; something that draws you into the design, ultimately forming a connection with it. I have a clear vision of realising objects destined to live outside themselves, in a sense containing a new perspective and movement in everyday space. My realisations are an evolving dialogue between designer, client, and manufacturer who share the same goal and vision’.
Marcel’s designs can be characterised as idiosyncratic and fresh. On one side is the understated and disguised, on the other, the bright and noticeable, alluding to both the hidden and visible strength of an object.
The studio currently undertakes a diverse selection of projects, including; furniture, lighting, object, space, and fashion.
