carbon sapphire

client | bombay sapphire 2005

A diamond, being of pure ‘carbon’, was the inspiration behind this chair. An allusion of grandeur is formed as the inside triangular seating planes are taken from the physical appearance of a cut diamond. The design further draws from various connotations evoked by diamonds, including; royalty, power, wealth, grace, and mystery.

Comprising 54 planes (28 of which form the inner seating area), carbon chair is made up of over 200 separate angles with over 100 edges. The upper portion of the chair is offset by strong inward pointing legs, which lighten its appearance, creating a sense of movement with a character and personality of its own.
